UN Secretary General to visit Vietnam
8:12 AM // 0 nhận xét // Polly Pham // Category: feature //UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon will pay his first official visit to Vietnam o n October 28-30 and attend the 17th ASEAN Summit, at the invitation of State President Nguyen Minh Triet.
The visit takes place in the context of growing global cooperation after the outbreak of the economic crisis and emerging threats like climate change, food security, natural disasters that cause undeniable headache to the international community.
Over the last time, The bilateral ties between Vietnam and the UN have been promoted widely and deeply thanks to regular meetings between the two sides’ leaders.
The UN has effectively assisted Vietnam’s renovation and socio-economic development, particularly in the fields of poverty reduction, healthcare, education, human resource improvement.
Meanwhile, the Southeast Asian country also practically and comprehensively contributes to the UN’s operations, especially when it was the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2008-2009.
Vietnam is a typical example of executing the UN Millennium Development Goals, effectively managing and using ODA, and volunteering in realizing the o ne-UN Initiative.
